Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of College Registrar at one of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) constituent colleges.
We are looking for a mature, well motivated individual with excellent management and administrative leadership skills, knowledge and experience of not less than 5 years gained from heading an administrative department of a large and busy organization. He/she should be prepared to operate in a challenging higher education environment where deadlines have to be met.
FUNCTIONS/KEY RESULTS EXPECTED
The College Registrar as head of the registry and as advisor to the Principal on matters concerning policy interpretation, human resource management, general management and staff and students’ welfare, is expected to carry out the following duties:
Provide leadership to the registry;
- Interpret university policies as well as initiating review of the same;
- Manage the staff establishment and recruitment for the college;
- Manage the staff performance management system and staff appraisal processes;
- Manage staff contracts;
- Process retrenchment and retirement for staff members;
- Manage staff disciplinary matters;
- Maintain industrial peace;
- Coordinate student admissions processes;
- Handle students’ examinations processes;
- Deal with general correspondence;
- Manage college assets;
- Coordinate college legal affairs in liaison with the Central Office and the University Legal Counsel;
- Budget and monitor budget implementation for the administration section( Principal, Deans and Registrars’ office)
- Oversee servicing of both statutory and adhoc committees.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Master’s Degree in an appropriate administration or management discipline;
- Knowledge of policy development and implementation and administrative and procedural law and legislative structures;
- 5 years of experience in a management position.
